"A bloody hilarious massacre"

Films: Dead Alive (1992)

Alias: Various, notably Vera Cosgrove, Void, and Baby Selwyn

Type: Mystical

Location: Civilized Area/Haunted home

Height/Weight: That of average humans, though Vera grows to twice that.

Affiliation: Neutral, Evil (Vera)

Summary: Remember "Evil Dead"? You ever stopped and asked yourself "what if someone did that, but with somehow even less restraint"? Well, give the genre to the guy who had previously blessed us with "Bad Taste" and "Meet the Feebles", and see where it goes from there!

History: Skull Island still exists, but instead of a big ape, explorers decided to bring back the Sumatran Rat-Monkey, a horrible little beast that is said to be used in dark rituals back on the island. One day, it bites the vindictive and domineering single mother Vera Cosgrove before she crushes it under her heel. Unfortunately, the little bastard's bite has infected her with a virus that turns her into a ravenous zombie capable of infecting others. Now her son Lionel has his work cut out, as zombie family members, neighbors, and even babies threaten to tear him and his hometown apart.

Notable Kills: Just watch them for yourself, and you'll understand why the first trailer for this film had footage of cute lambs playing on the side to distract you.

Final Fate: Pretty much all of the zombies are gored and dismembered to death, but Vera manages to mutate into a grotesque uber-zombie. However, Lionel manages to stand up for himself, and even when oddly devoured by her, he rips out and kills her in a shower of gore.

Powers/Abilities: The ability to infect others, even unborn children.

Weakness: Anything conventional, though fire and head-shots work best.

Scariness Factor: 4.5-You will never in your lifetime find a horde of zombies so focused on reducing you to a pile of broken flesh and blood. Indeed, this might be one of Peter Jackson's most terrifying, disgusting takes at dark humor. And again, this was the guy who directed scenes of a guy eating a brain with a spoon and a puppet hippo destroying everyone with a machine gun.

Trivia: -Funnily enough, the Rat-Monkey would make a cameo in Peter Jackson's 2005 King Kong movie as a crate reading "BEWARE THE BITE". Also, according to the field guide, its kind reside in the chasms where all the nightmarish arthropods hide, presumably so that they don't wipe out the rest of the ecosystem.

-Another thing that carried from this Peter Jackson film to the next was the Putangirua Pinnacles of New Zealand used in the opening. They would later be the location for, appropriately, the Paths of the Dead in the "Lord of the Rings" movies.

Now would be a good time to close your eyes.

I knew this film was gross, but WHAT?!

They're not the only ones that'll drop into this macabre party.

Even the Skullcrawlers wanted him to go away!
Forget the undead! What's wrong with her lips?! Oh, wait. It's that kind of movie.

Japan! Stop making it worse!

One of the many reasons we skimped out on showing you a lot of images.
Believe it or not, that madman is the one in the right.

MORE OF THEM?! That's it! Get the nuke!

Amazing their relationship lasted after htis apocalypse.

Another ANOTHER reason we skimped out on images.

Yep. It's exactly what you think it is.
